The Road to 40: Week 2

Just two weeks in, and this journey is already proving to be a challenge. If you’ve read my earlier updates, you know what I’m trying to accomplish—on top of managing a full-time job. This week, work definitely took priority.
In hindsight, I should have anticipated how demanding this week would be and planned accordingly. I’m a Project Manager, and a major project I’ve been working on for the past four months officially launched on Tuesday. That meant early mornings—logging on at 6:00 a.m.—and long days, often working until close to 6:00 p.m. As a result, I didn’t have as much time as I would’ve liked to focus on my golf game.
That said, I was still able to make some progress. I attended a short game clinic last Friday afternoon and picked up several helpful tips on chipping and pitching. The biggest takeaway, though, was bunker play. I’ve never had a lesson in the sand before, and some of the techniques the instructor shared were extremely effective. By the end of the session, I was hitting bunker shots within a couple of feet of the pin—not too bad in my book.
Over the weekend, I spent time working on shots from 100 yards and in, really focusing on dialing in distances. I’m already seeing noticeable improvement in this area compared to last week, which is encouraging.
Longer irons and woods have been a different story. I’ve been hitting some significant draws and couldn’t pinpoint the cause—until I recorded a few swings. Watching the footage made it clear that my trail arm has been getting disconnected from my body, leading to inconsistent arm positioning throughout the swing. It wasn’t pretty, but at least I now know exactly what I need to work on heading into next week.
Because of work constraints, I wasn’t able to play in my golf league this week, so I didn’t get out on the course. Not ideal, but sometimes that’s just how it goes.
I’ll admit, I didn’t expect things to feel this tough so early in the process—but that’s life. I’ll keep rolling with the punches and pushing forward.
Until next week.
Fairways and greens, y’all.
