The Road to 40: Chasing a 4.0 handicap

This isn’t going to be a long post, but I had an idea I wanted to put into words before I had a chance to overthink it. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m turning 40 this year, and with that milestone approaching, I decided to challenge myself in a meaningful way.
Over the next six months, my goal is to lower my handicap from its current 8.9 to a 4.0 by August 6. It’s an ambitious target, and I’m fully aware that it won’t be easy—especially while balancing a full-time job and everyday responsibilities. That said, I’m committed to giving this my best effort and seeing just how far consistent focus and hard work can take me.
At the moment, I don’t have a detailed plan mapped out. The approach is simple: dedicate time each week to improving different aspects of my game and adjust as I learn what’s working and what isn’t. I expect the process to evolve over time, and I’m okay with that. This is as much about the journey and the discipline as it is about the end result.
I don’t know how many people—if any—will follow along, but I plan to post weekly updates every Friday. Each post will reflect on how the week went, what I worked on most, and where I see progress (or challenges). My hope is that documenting the process will help keep me accountable and maybe even resonate with others who enjoy setting personal goals.
That’s really all that’s set in stone for now. The next six months will no doubt bring some unexpected challenges and a few surprises along the way, but I’m looking forward to the grind. It’s going to be difficult, but it should also be a lot of fun. I’m excited to see where this goes.
Fairways and greens, y’all.
