The Road to 40: Not sure the week anymore

It’s been about a month since my last update—and honestly, that feels about right. Work definitely took over for a bit. I had a big project running from June 1–5, and most of my time (and energy) went into prepping for that. I still managed to get some practice in, but anything beyond work and golf was pretty much nonexistent.
But enough excuses—let’s get back to the game.
In my last update, I mentioned that my chipping needed work. I’ve spent some time focusing on it, and while it’s not perfect, there’s been some noticeable improvement. Still more to do there, but it’s trending in the right direction.
The bigger challenge has been my full swing. It’s been inconsistent, both on the course and in practice—one day everything feels great, the next I can’t find the center of the clubface or control where the ball is going. It’s clear I need to simplify things and get back to the basics.
Lately, I’ve been focusing on my hand and wrist position at the top of the swing, along with cleaning up my takeaway—making sure I’m not getting too far inside early. That work is starting to pay off. Ball flight is improving (I’m not missing as far right), and my scoring has followed.
In my Tuesday 9-hole league, I’ve been consistently shooting 3–4 over, and this past week I got it to 1 over. I also played 18 recently and shot 5 over—my best round so far.
As of now, my handicap sits at 9.2. It’s gone up a bit since starting this journey, but the recent progress feels more indicative of where things are heading.
I’ve got just under two months left to make some real gains in my scoring. Whether I get all the way there or not, I’m not backing off—I’m going to keep working until I do.
Until next week (or whenever).
Fairways and greens, y’all.
